What is Peristalsis ? Explain both mechanical as well as the chemical part of digestion of food in the mouth of man.​

Answer:

Peristalsis is the rhythmic movement of oesophagus (foodpipe) ,which allow the bolus (partially directed food) to reach the stomach.

Mechanical:

When we take in Food, it is mixed with our saliva with the help of our TONGUE and masticated (chewed) with our teeth.. Then the Peristaltic movement help that mixture to reach our stomach.

Chemical:

Our saliva contains sugar digesting enzymes, with break the sugar into SIMPLER form and digest it. This partially digested food in our mouth is called Bolus. Then on reaching our stomach it is mixed with three gastric juices, namely, HCL, pepsin and mucus .
