What is photo electric effect? Explain it on the basis quantum theory. |

Answer» Photo electric effect: It is defined as the emission of electrons when light is shone onto a material. Electrons emitted in this manner are called photo-electrons. Photo electric effect on the basis of quantum theory: (i) Electrons can only absorb or emit energy in discrete amounts called quanta (packets). (ii) Energy of each quanta (photon) is directly proportional to frequency of radiation. E= hv Where E = Energy of photon h = Planck′s constant v = Frequency of radiation |
