Answer» PI was formerly known as PROFIBUS INTERNATIONAL. It is the umbrella organization responsible for the PROFIBUS PROTOCOL and its promotion and support across the world via a network of Regional PI Associations. When PROFINET, PI’s INDUSTRIAL Ethernet solution, was launched, PROFIBUS International was re-named ‘PI’ (PROFIBUS and PROFINET International). PI was formerly known as PROFIBUS International. It is the umbrella organization responsible for the PROFIBUS protocol and its promotion and support across the world via a network of Regional PI Associations.
