Requirement Trace-ability matrix is matrix to map between requirements and test cases or test scenarios. The traceability matrix links a business requirement to its corresponding functional requirement Traceability Matrix (RTM) is updated by Development and Testing teams and used by stake holders of the project to check if all the requirements are addressed, implemented and TESTED. Traceability Matrix allows forward or backward tracking of Business requirement, Functional Requirement, Design CODE and Testing.

• Consider a scenario where, you already have thousands of test cases developed from the requirements. Now a requirement is changed or modified.
• OBVIOUSLY you will need to change your test cases to MEET this new requirement
• But , by now your test case suite is very large and it is very difficult to trace the test cases affected by the test cases
