What is the main difference between alchemy and chemistry? |
|
Answer» The main difference between Alchemy and Chemistry, is that in Chemistry all operations or experiments must be replicable -- that is, they must be able to be repeated by anyone at anytime. In Alchemy, this is not the case. The results of an Alchemical Operation are dependent on variables such as the spiritual state of the operator and his/her assistants, the environment of the lab and the state of the cosmos at the time (i.e. the position of the sun, moon and planets.) In other words, an Alchemical operation may not have the same result every time by everyone who makes the attempt. In most other respects, the two disciplines are similar (e.g., they both require robust record-keeping.) The unpredictable results of Alchemy and the kinds of variables upon which it is dependent lead to Alchemy being described as an Art, as opposed to the science of Chemistry. In fact, Alchemy has been called The Royal Art. The difference between Alchemy and Chemistry are- • Alchemy is the predecessor to modern chemistry. Many discoveries by alchemist were later used in chemistry. • Alchemy was based more on experimentation and had little basis in science. Chemistry utilizes both experimentation and scientific practices. • Modern chemistry basically relies on scientific theories and experimental results, but the alchemy was a blend of myths, religion, magic, astrology, philosophy, and spirituality. • Modern chemistry has so many practical applications, the era of alchemy can be considered as the beginning of this period. |
