What is the maximum no. of emission lines obtained when the excited electrons of a hydrogen atom in n=5 drop to a ground state

Answer»

10
5
12
15

Solution :Number of EMISSION LINES in the spectrum will be EQUAL to `((n_2-n_1)(n_2-n_1+1))/2` where `n_2=5` and `n_1=1`
`therefore ((5-1)(5-1+1))/2 =20/2` =10 lines
