Raksha Bandhan is an important Hindu custom from ancient times. It celebrates the love and affection between a brother and a sister. On this day, sisters tie a bunch of silken threads on the wrist of their brothers. It is symbolic of the relationship between them which full of affection, care and sacrifice for each other. By tying the Rakhi around the wrist of the brother, a sister shows her love and care for the brother.

The brother, on his part, promises to defend her sister even at the cost of his life. The widow queen of Chittor, Karnawati, sent rakhi to Mughal emperor Humayun. Chittor was attacked by Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujrat. Rajputs were finding it difficult to defend themselves. Humayun set off with his army. Reaching there late, he found that the queen and other women had burnt themselves in a Jauhar.

रक्षाबंधन प्राचीन समय से ही एक महत्त्वपूर्ण हिन्दू त्योहार रहा है। यह भाई एवं बहिन के बीच प्रेम एवं स्नेह की याद दिलाता है। इस दिन बहिनें अपने भाइयों की कलाई पर रेशमी धागों का एक गुच्छा बाँधती हैं। यह उनके बीच स्नेह, चिन्ता एवं त्याग से भरे रिश्ते का प्रतीक होता है। भाई की कलाई पर राखी बाँधकर एक बहिन अपने भाई के प्रति प्रेम एवं चिन्ता का प्रदर्शन करती है। दूसरी ओर, भाई अपने जीवन की कीमत पर भी बहिन की रक्षा का वादा करता है। चित्तौड़ की विधवा रानी कर्णावती ने मुगल बादशाह हुमायूं को राखी भेजी। चित्तौड़ पर गुजरात के सुल्तान बहादुरशाह ने आक्रमण कर दिया था। राजपूत सेना उसका मुकाबला नहीं कर पा रही थी। हुमायूं उसकी सहायता करने हेतु सेना लेकर चल पड़ा। विलम्ब से पहुँचने पर उसने पाया कि कर्णावती ने अन्य स्त्रियों के साथ जौहर कर लिया था।
