What is User-Story Mapping?

Answer»

Story Maps were initially introduced by Jeff Patton in 2005. The principal idea behind Story Maps is that single-list product backlogs are very difficult to organize and prioritize A need for richer STRUCTURE arose and hence the story map CONCEPT was introduced. A story mapping is a compelling device that facilitates an agile team to refine their product backlog and design the product releases more efficiently.

Few benefits of using a story map:

  1. Handle backlog with a summary and straightened structure
  2. Brainstorm, review, and prioritize user requirements in a collaborative path
  3. Control activities and responsibilities and distribute them into epics or user stories in an orderly manner
  4. CLASSIFY and prioritize user actions and user tasks, or DIG down to improve them into relevant epics or user stories
  5. MAINTAIN user stories online for both remote and co-location environments
