What types of lakes are found in India? Give suitable examples. |

Answer» India has many lakes. They differ in size and other characteristics. Most lakes are permanent, whereas some contain water only during the rainy season. There are lakes which are formed by the action of glaciers and ice sheets, while the others have been formed by human activities. 1. Glacial lake: Lake which is originated from melted glaciers. Eg. Chandra Tal, Lake Tsongmo, Kedartal etc. 3. Ox bow lake: It is formed when a wide meander from a river is cut off to form a lake. Eg, Purbasthali oxbow lake, Kanwar oxbow Lake etc. 4. Lagoon lake: A body of shallow sea water or brackish water separated from the ocean by barrier islands or reefs .Eg. Chilika lake, Puli cat lake etc. India has many lakes.
