At the end of the story, Mrs Malik shifted to her own house with her son and daughter-in-law. She had got a 10 x 8 room constructed in that house. The room was for her mother-in-law and after her death, it was going to be used as a storeroom. Now Mrs Malik’s daughter-in-law gives her the same 10 x 8 room to live. Now she thinks about her misbehaviour towards her mother-in-law. When her daughter-in-law says, “The house is otherwise very well planned. It lacks only a storeroom. I would like to have a big enough store.” Mrs Malik feels as if she were sinking deep and deep into a bottomless well. This short story is a fine example of human psychology. Mrs Malik feels that she is reaping what she had sown. 

कहानी के अन्त में श्रीमती मलिक अपने पुत्र व पुत्रवधू के साथ स्वयं के घर में रहने आती हैं। उन्होंने उस घर में एक 10 x 8 फीट का कमरा बनवाया था। वह कमरा उनकी सास के लिए था और उनकी मृत्यु के बाद इसे भण्डारघर के रूप में उपयोग में लिया जाने वाला था। अब श्रीमती मलिक की पुत्रवधू उन्हें रहने के लिए वही 10 x 8 फीट का कमरा देती है। अब वह अपनी सास के प्रति किये गए अपने दुर्व्यवहार के विषय में सोचती हैं। जब उनकी पुत्रवधू कहती है, वैसे यह मकान बहुत ही सुनियोजित ढंग से बना हुआ है। बस इसमें एक भण्डारगृह की कमी है। मैं एक काफी बड़ा सा भण्डारगृह पसन्द करूंगी।” तो श्रीमती मलिक को महसूस होता है जैसे कि वे किसी तलहीन कुँए की गहराई में डूबती जा रही हों। यह लघुकथा . मनोविज्ञान का एक सुन्दर उदाहरण है। श्रीमती मलिक को अनुभव होता है कि वह अपना बोया हुआ ही काट।
