In 1870 Lord Mayo in his capacity as a viceroy enforced Walter plan of 1869 by opening the first college in Rajkot. After his murder in Andaman, the Mayo College was opened in Ajmer, and in 1886 Achison College, Lahore and Daily College, Indore were set up for the ruling families.
