Robert Baldwin was a very sensitive, sincere, honest and loyal man. When John Gresham was convicted of the wreck in the bank and he was in the jail, Gresham asked Robert to speak only three words in the court, “I do not remember.” He thought of accepting the money and spoke those three words but he had lived an honest and pure life. That life stood before him. He was a very respectable and honourable man in the society. He was very angry when John Gresham had offered him money. Gresham knew that he was honest, when Robert rejected to accept the money he was not surprised. Such type of ideas were coming into the mind of Robert.
