When unpolarized light is incident on the interface separating the rarer medium and the denser medium, Brewster angle is found to b 60°. Determine the refractive index of the denser medium. |
|
Answer» According to Brewster’s law, when unpolarized light is incident on the interface separating the rarer medium and the denser medium, the reflected light is fully polarized provided µ = tan ip, where µ is refractive index of medium and ip is polarizing angle or Brewster angle. Given: ip = 60º. Therefore, µ = tan 60° = √3 = 1.732 Refractive index of denser medium is 1.732. |
