The tenants were forced to grow indigo on large portion of their land, had to pay heavy taxes and got very little for their produce. Resentment and anger was obvious but they did not know how to revolt against the illegal and unjustified actions of the their landlaords who worked under the British. This is when Gandhi came to rescue and organised a movement until their demands were met. Even though in the end, he was prisoned, the tenant's demands were listened to and put to immediate effect.
