Which is a stronger reducing agent Cr^(2+) or Fe^(2+)and why ?

Answer»

Solution :`Cr^(2+)`is a STRONGER reducing agent than `Fe^(2+)`.
REASON . `E_(Cr^(3+) //Cr^(2+))^(@)`is `-ve ( -0.41V)`whereas `E_(Fe^(3+) //Fe^(2+))^(@)` is `+ve ( + 0.77V)`. THUS, `Cr^(2+)` is easily OXIDIZED to `Fe^(3+)` but `Fe^(2+)` cannot be easily oxidized to `Fe^(3+)` . Hence, `Cr^(2+)` is stronger reducing agent than `Fe^(2+)`
