1.

Which of the following options are correct?

Answer»

Acceleration due to gravity decreases with increasing altitude
Acceleration due to gravity increases with increasing depth (assume the earth to be a sphere of uniform density)
Acceleration due to gravity increases with increasing latitude
Acceleration due to gravity is INDEPENDENT OFTHE mass of the earth

Solution :Acceleration due to gravity,
at altitude,`g_h~~g(1-(2h)/R)`

At depth d, `g_d = g(1- d/R)`
In both cases, g decreases with increase in H and d.
At latitude `PHI,g_0 = g - omega^(2) Rcos^(2) phi`
In this case , `g_phi` increases with increase in `phi` , Also g is independent of mass.
