Mathematics is a branch of science which deals with counting, calculating, and studying numbers, shapes, and structures. 

In Mathematics, mathematicians are concerned with arguments, instead of proofs. The truth of an argument can be acquired through two main processes i.e. Deduction and Induction.

• Arguments with logical processes are generally divided into two parts i.e. a Premise and a Conclusion.
• To prove an argument, one has to provide reasons to support it. To do so, one begins with plausible assumptions, the Premises (Axioms), and then show that those assumptions logically entails a Conclusion (Theorem).

An axiom:

• is a statement that serves as a starting point from which other statements are logically derived.
• is a statement that is assumed to be true and need not be proved.
• is a mathematical statement that we assume to be true without proof.
• are the propositions that are assumed.
• are used to different mathematical reasoning and proving theorems.
• are used in the starting point of any mathematical reasoning.

NOTE: A theorem is a statement that has been proven by logical arguments based on axioms. 

Hence, we can conclude that Axioms are the same as propositions statement is true about 'axioms'.
