The SWAMP deer (Rucervus duvaucelii), commonly known as barasingha, is one of the LARGE cervids endemic to the Indian subcontinent (Schaller, 1967;Qureshi ET al., 2004). It is the only EXTANT member species of the genus Rucervus with Schomburgk's deer (Rucervus schomburgki) from Central Thailand believed to have gone extinct by 1938 (Duckworth et al., 2015)
