Answer» Most of the answers given here or the displayed ones are wrong. A nai or barber not Bismillah Khan decided or improved the quality of pungi. Brother he was bismillah khan he was a nai(barber) Aurangzeb has banned the pungi because it has shrill and unpleasant sound. So Bismillah Khan decided to improve on pungi. And later he made 7 holes in the hollow pipe and built like this a shehnai. This was just an improvement on pungi. Shehnai derived its name by that it was first played by a nai (barber) at the mughal court in the front of the shehjada( king) Aurangzeb . So from this it derives its name shehnai. |
