Why air is considered as a mixture and not a compound

Answer» Air contains oxygen and nitrogen as its major constituents. These gases retain their properties in air. So the air is called a mixture.
Air is considered a mixture because in air there is many gases combined together in any proportion and we know that mixture is a substance consist of two or more two substance in any proportion
Air is considered as a mixture because it is made up of two or more than two types of atom like it contains hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen etc. And these all substances are not in fixed ratio.
