Why are the stem-like and leaf-like structures of a moss plant not called stem and leaves ?

Answer» Stem had nodes and internodes. Leaves arise from nodes and possess axillary buds. These structures are found in sporophytic plant body. Since the main plant body of bryophytes is gametophytic, the stem-like and leaf-like structures are not called stem and leaves.
