Answer» Lakshmi was innocent, but her husband Gangaram suspected her character. He called her a woman of the street. In his anger he ran after her to wring her neck. She feared his violent doings. She thought that all the other maids of the haveli and their children would look upon her as a bad woman and would taunt her. So she refused to return to the haveli. लक्ष्मी निर्दोष थी परन्तु उसके पति गंगाराम ने उसके चरित्र पर संदेह किया। उसने उसे सड़क की औरत कहा। क्रोध में वह उसकी गर्दन मरोड़ने के लिये भागा। अतः वह उसकी हिंसात्मक कर्तृतों से डर गयी। उसने सोचा कि हवेली की सभी अन्य सेविकायें और उनके बच्चे उसे बुरी औरत समझेंगे और उसे चिढ़येंगे। अतः उसने हवेली में वापस आने से इंकार कर दिया। |
