Answer» The Congress accepted partition under the Mountbatten plan for several reasons : • They felt that by accepting the Plan they would get the time to settle in and ensure peaceful and immediate transfer of power. • The communal situation of the country was very precarious and accepting the partition was the only way to come out of the situation. • The Congress was convinced that if the partition was rejected, the League’s continuous agitation would disrupt the working of the Constituent Assembly. • The Congress believed that non-acceptance of the Plan would lead to delay of the transfer of power.
