Why does ether act as a nucleophile?.

Answer»

tion:ETHERS are generally not NUCLEOPHILES because while they do have an electronegative oxygen heteroatom, there is not a proton that can be removed to quench the positive charge in the intermediate. This means that ethers could be possible SN1 nucleophiles that produce a high energy product. In general it is reasonable to ASSUME that ethers will not act as nucleophiles.
