Why does the insecticidal protein produced by Bacillus thuringiensis not kill the bacterium, but kills the cotton bollworm? Explain.

The BT toxin protein exists as inactive prototoxin. Once an insect ingest the inactive prototoxin it is converted into an active form of the toxin due to alkaline pH of gut which solubilises the cyrstals. Therefore, it does not kill the bacteria.
