Why ice only freeze on the surface of lakes but not at bottom

1.	Why ice only freeze on the surface of lakes but not at bottom
Answer» Because at bottom the density of water at bottom is maximum and due to anamolous behaviour of water at maximum density the temperature of water is 4 C thats why it not freezes
