Answer» India is a nation of MULTIPLE religions .The farmers of the constitution clearly FELT that COMMUNALISM may cause a major hindrance to the unity and INTEGRITY of the nation .THEREFORE,in the Forty second Amendment act 1976 the word secular was added.It means that the state cannot uphold any particular religion but protects all the religions equally .
