Answer» Agriculture is the major sector for Indian people. It is the main profession for rural people in India. Around 57% of the work force is engaged in Agriculture. Agriculture provides food to all people of India. The food crisis of 1950s and 60s are solved by the farmers of India. Now India is surplus in food grain. Agriculture provides raw material for jute, cotton, edible oil, industrial oil, paint and sugar industries. Now there is stress on the use of Bio fuel from jtaropha oil and ethanol. Agriculture can play a major role in meeting at least 50% of the oil fuel demand of India. Recently a passenger plane was in the air from Dehradun to Delhi. The plane was flying with jatropha oil. Due to the introduction of bio fuel, there may large scale plantation of sugar cane and jatropha. The farmers will get the benefit of such a new discovery and uses. There may be more employment in rural areas of India due to the new revolution in production of bio fuel. Agriculture may act as the back bone of Indian civilisation in future.
