Why is group 18 of modern periodic table also known as group zero? |
|
Answer» The outermost shells of the elements belonging to group 18 contain eight electrons (except helium), so they are already completely filled with electrons. They have no tendency to lose or gain electrons and hence have a stable electronic configuration with zero valency. Therefore, group 18 of modern periodic table is also known as group zero. |
