Why is India known as a sovereign country?

Answer» A country has peoples, and borders. It can be multilingual, multi ethnic, multi regional, multi religious. There are sentiments attached to the notion of a country, symbols and history ( almost like national identity). A country may be independent or even a colony. India is an independent country.State is composed of a government and institutions of administration for effective governance of a country. While it can be progressive and work on the principles of natural and distributive justice, the government and institutions do not inspire sentiments like the notion of a country does. A state is an inanimate set up, a machinery, carrying out functions assigned to it. A state need not be an independent entity, its rights and privileges may be constrained by a colonizer or a hegemonic power.A sovereign state is an independent entity, that can mobilse its resources, ink treaties, declare or wage wars. Its limitations are drawn only by its own volition, and international constraints voluntarily accepted.India is a country and its citizens are Indians. India is a sovereign state in that it is an independent country, which can enter in to treaties and take decisions and actions cosiderd necessary to maintain its sovereignty.\xa0
