The IST (Indian Standard Time) is a longitude that passes through a place quite close to CHENNAI and the Standard time of this meridian is taken as the standard time for the entire country. Now, the IST is 5hrs and 30MINS ahead of Greenwich Meridian (PRIME Meridian). India comes on the east of the Greenwich Meridian (aka the Prime Meridian) we will add time.
