Why mercury is liquid in nature? |
|
Answer» Answer: Mercury is the only metal that is a LIQUID at normal temperatures and pressure. Basically, it's because mercury is BAD at sharing—electrons, that is. Most metal atoms readily share valence electrons with other atoms. The electrons in a mercury ATOM are bound more tightly than usual to the nucleus. Explanation: A heavy, SILVERY d-block element, mercury is the only metallic element that is liquid at standard conditions for temperature and pressure; the only other element that is liquid under these conditions is the halogen bromine, though metals such as caesium, GALLIUM, and rubidium melt just above room temperature.
