Answer» Yes I would agree a sealed item can sometimes be damaged and could really WARRANT a grading of VG+ or lower (esp for sleeve). A seller could use the new grading to conceal this damage or it might be misleading to the buyer. Also mint and sealed are both ways of saying 'new'. I never grade above NM unless it categorically is brand new and unplayed and/or sealed (with no storage damage). So I would probably just have 'New' with NM the next level down... Also that might stop SELLERS listing non-new or potentially 40+ YEAR old items as 'mint' when that's highly unlikely. So yeah - I'm not entirely sure. I still think the big problem is VG+ which has too wide a grading margin and we need stage between NM and VG+ but hey I don't want to hijack the thread. |
