Answer» The Bastille was DESTROYED because it was the biggest symbol of despotic FRENCH power. It’s destruction began on 14 July 1789, the same day as the Storming of the Bastille, but it ultimately took some 22 months to remove all VISIBLE trace of it from its GROUNDS. On the day of the Storming, the people had come to the Bastille to gain access to gunpowder to use for the muskets they had obtained elsewhere, all in an effort to protect themselves from an expected attack from King Louis XVI’s foreign. |
