Answer» The astrologer had foretold that the Maharaja should be wary of the hundredth tiger. The Maharaja killed ninety-nine tigers but he could not even trace the hundredth one. Killing the last tiger would mean that he proved the prophecy wrong and saved his life. That is why he was so anxious to kill the hundredth tiger.
