Answer» Xylem and phloem are known as complex tissues as they are made up of more than ONE TYPE of cells. These cells work in a coordinated manner, as a unit, to perform the various functions of the xylem and phloem. Tracheids are elongated, thick-walled dead cells with tapering ends. Plants have two different types of transport tissue. Xylem transports water and solutes from the ROOTS to the leaves,phloem transports food from the leaves to the rest of the plant. Transpiration is the process by which water EVAPORATES from the leaves, which results in more water being DRAWN up from the roots.
