Why Young Modulus (Y) is greater than Shear Modulus (G)? And proof the relation G = Y/3. |
|
Answer» Shear Modulus is smaller than Young’s Modulus due to the fact that shear stress is not uniformly distributed over the entire cross section of the member while axial stress is generally more uniformly distributed over the cross section. In other words, any member will carry axial stress in a more efficient manner than shear stress. |
