Write a brief account on the Third Estate

Answer» The Third Estate was the a estate or group constituting the French Society during the late 18th century. It consisted of rich businessmen, merchants, traders, court officials, peasants etc. Note that some people were rich and others poor within the third estate. The Third Estate did not enjoy the previleges enjoyed by the members of the clergy and the nobility. The Third Estate had to pay all the taxes to run the government. There were two types of taxes paid by the Third Estate-1. Tithes was a tax extracted by the church. It consisted of one-tenth of total agricultural produce.2. Taille was a tax which was paid directly to the government. It was levied on the consumption of everyday items such as salt and tobacco.
