The poet William Wordsworth uses various literary terms or figures of speech in this poem. In the beginning of the poem the poet uses wonderful metaphor. He introduces the nature in the form of a beautiful young lady who is busy in her work of reaping harvest and singing a song. Here the poet presents the nature as young as a maiden so that we finds the brilliant use of simile because the poet presents the nature as young as the maiden and finds equal sense of dedication in the highland lass. Further more the poet uses comparison and presents the song of the girl sweeter than the Nightingale’s. He says that no nightingale can sing better than the girl. He declares that the cuckoo bird cannot stand in her comparison. Basically we find the use of metaphor in a vivid form.

कवि विलियम वर्ड्सवर्थ इस कविता में विभिन्न लिटरेरी टर्म या फिग(र)स् ऑफ स्पीच का प्रयोग करता है। कविता के शुरू में कवि अद्भुत मेटाफर अर्थात् रूपक का प्रयोग करता है। वह प्रकृति को एक सुन्दर लड़की के रूप में पेश करता है जो कि अपने फसल काटने और गीत गाने में लिप्त है। कवि प्रकृति को भी उतना ही युवा पेश करता है जितनी वह पहाड़िन लड़की है। अतः हमें यहाँ एक सुन्दर उपमा प्रतीत होती है। आगे कवि शानदार तुलना पेश करता है तथा लड़की के गीत को बुलबुल के गीत से भी मधुर बताता है। वह कहता है कि कोई भी बुलबुल उससे मधुर नहीं गा सकती है। कवि घोषणा करता है कि कोयल भी उसकी तुलनां में खड़ी नहीं हो सकती है। मुख्यतया हमें यहाँ रूपक का विस्तृत प्रयोग देखने को मिलता है।
