In Britain the negroes are considered as a ‘darky’, ‘Nigger’ or a ‘black’. These words are humiliating words for the negroes. In fact they can ride buses and trains if they have paid the required fare. They can also take shelter in the hotels or boarding places. But sometimes they may encounter polite refusals at hotels are boarding places. In English there are several negro doctors, lawyers and talented entertainers but they are treated as the different from the mass. On the other hand, the Negroes in America are provided with constitutional devices to right prejudices against the white men. Moreover, they are provided with all opportunities to rise in life and increase their income. They also enjoy a greater sense of social and religious independence also.

ब्रिटेन में नीग्रो को एक ‘अश्वेत, निग्गर अथवा काले लोग’ के तौर पर माना जाता था। ये सारे शब्द नीग्रो लोगों को अपमानित करने वाले शब्द थे। वास्तव में यदि वे उचित भाड़ा देते थे तो उन्हें वहाँ की बसों और ट्रेनों में यात्रा कर सकते थे। इसके साथ ही वे होटलों और बोर्डिग स्थानों में भी भुगतान कर आश्रय प्राप्त कर सकते थे। लेकिन कई बार उन्हें बड़ी शिष्टता के साथ इन होटलों और बोर्डिग आश्रयों में रुकने से मना भी कर दिया जाता था। ब्रिटेन में कई नीग्रो ऐसे थे जो डाक्टर, वकील और प्रशिक्षित मनोरंजनकर्मी थे। दूसरी ओर अमेरिका में नीग्रो को संवैधानिक उपचार का सहारा दिया गया था जिसके सहारे वे गोरे लोगों द्वारा किए गए पूर्वाग्रह ग्रसित दुर्व्यवहार से लड़ सकते थे। कम-ओ-बेस उन्हें हर प्रकार की सुविधा दी गई थी जिसके सहारे वे अपने जीवन में आगे बढ़ सके और अपनी आर्थिक स्थिति को सुदृढ़ कर सके। इसके साथ ही वे यहाँ धार्मिक और सामाजिक स्वतंत्रता का भी बड़े पैमाने पर उपभोग करते थे।
