The poet Milton expresses his sorrow by composing the poem “On His Blindness”. This poem is dedicated to God. He stays at his place and urges God why He has made him blind. By means of this poem he expresses his views. He says that he is doing his duty in His honour. In this way he is performing his duty of composing verses. On the other hand he urges God to give back his eyesight so that he can do his work successfully. But God admonishes the poet by reminding his duty and says that he should do his work patiently. God says that he does not require any gift or service of a man. The poet should not expect for his mercy because he will get everything like others staying at his place. God’s mercy and grace will be bestowed upon everyone. So he should wait.

कवि मिल्टन, “ऑन हिज ब्लाइन्डनेस” नामक कविता के माध्यम से अपना दुःख व्यक्त करता है। यह कविता भगवान को समर्पित है। वह अपने स्थान से ही जोर देकर भगवान से कहता है कि उसने उसे अन्धा क्यों कर दिया। इस कविता के माध्यम से वह अपने विचार प्रकट करता है। वह कहता है कि वह भगवान के सम्मान में अपने कर्तव्य का पालन कर रहा है। इस प्रकार वह कविता की रचना के माध्यम से अपना कर्तव्य निभा रहा है। दूसरी तरफ वह भगवान से अतिप्रेमपूर्ण ढंग से कहता है कि उसे आँखों की ज्योति प्रदान की जाये जिससे कि वह अपना कार्य सफलतापूर्वक कर सके। लेकिन भगवान उसे प्रताड़ित करते हुए, और उसके कर्तव्य की याद दिलाते हुए कहते हैं कि उसे (कवि) अपना कर्त्तव्य धैर्यपूर्वक पूरा करना चाहिए। भगवान आगे कहते हैं कि उसे न किसी की सेवा की आवश्यकता है और न किसी तोहफे की। कवि को उसकी दया की प्रतीक्षा नहीं करनी चाहिए क्योंकि अन्यों की तरह उसे भी सब कुछ अपने स्थान पर स्वतः प्राप्त हो जायेगा। भगवान की कृपा और दया दृष्टि सब पर समान रूप से होती है। इसलिए उसे प्रतीक्षा करनी चाहिए।
