A Drought and Famine I Faced

Last year I faced a severe drought and famine. It seemed as if the God of Rain. had turned eyes from our area. There was scarcity of food for a long period in this region. I, too, faced that situation. One day, there was no flour in the house. I went out in search of a tree. Anyway, I found it at some distance. I carried an axe with me. I started removing its bark. It was very hard. My palms became red. Anyhow it was removed. I brought it at home and dried it. Then, it was hammered and ground. Then, dough was made from it. And then, chapaties were made. I had to eat its chapaties to remain alive. I cannot forget it.

एक सूखा व अकाल जिसका मैंने सामना किया

गत वर्ष मैंने एक गंभीर सूखे व अकाल को सामना किया। ऐसा लगा जैसे वर्षा के देवता ने हमारे क्षेत्र से नजरें फेर ली हों। इस क्षेत्र में लम्बे समय से भोजन की कमी थी, मैंने भी इस स्थिति का सामना किया। एक दिन घर में बिल्कुल आटा नहीं था। मैं एक वृक्ष की तलाश में बाहर गया। कुछ दूरी पर यह मिल भी गया। मैं अपने साथ एक कुल्हाड़ी ले गया था। मैंने इसकी छाल हटाना आरंभ कर दिया। यह बहुत कठोर थी। मेरी हथेली लाल हो गई थी। कैसे भी, इसे हटाया गया। मैं, इसे घर लाया और सुखाया। फिर इसे कूटा गया और पीसा गया। फिर, इससे लोई बनाई गई। और फिर, रोटी बनाई गई। मुझे जीवित रहने के लिए इसकी रोटी खानी पड़ी। मैं इसे नहीं भूल सकता हूँ।
