A House on Fire

I cannot forget the fire accident that I witnessed last summer. I was sleeping on the roof of my house when suddenly I heard a loud noise. “Fire ! Fire!’ I woke up with a start and saw a house on fire at some distance. Soon I reached there. Many people were there. Flames were rising high. Smoke was there. Everyone was active. I ran to a telephone booth and telephoned to fire station. Some people were crying and some were running here and there. A man and his wife were weeping. There’ were cries and there was much noise. Some people were bringing water. They were throwing water on the fire. Some people were throwing sand on the fire. I also threw sand on fire. Then fire-brigade vehicles came and controlled the fire in two hours. We thanked God that no one lost his or her life.

एक मकान में आग

मैंने गत गर्मियों में जो आग की दुर्घटना देखी, उसे मैं नहीं भूल सकता। मैं अपने मकान की छत पर सो रहा था तथा तभी अचानक मैंने आग! आग!’ का एक तेज शोर सुना। मैं तेजी से जाग गया और थोड़ी ही दूरी पर एक मकान में आग देखी। जल्दी ही मैं वहाँ पहुँचा। अनेक व्यक्ति वहाँ एकत्रित हो गये। आग की लंपटें ऊपर जा रही थीं। वहाँ धुआँ था। प्रत्येक व्यक्ति सक्रिय था। मैं एक टेलीफोन बूथ की ओर दौड़ा और अग्निशमन केन्द्र को फोन किया। कुछ व्यक्ति चिल्ला रहे थे और कुछ व्यक्ति इधर-उधर दौड़ रहे थे। एक आदमी और उसकी पत्नी रो रहे थे। वहाँ चिल्लाहट थी और बहुत अधिक शोर था। कुछ लोग पानी ला रहे थे। वे आग पर पानी फेंक रहे थे। कुछ लोग आग पर मिट्टी फेंक रहे थे। मैंने भी आग पर मिट्टी फेंकी। तब अग्निशमन वाहन (आग बुझाने वाली गाड़ियाँ) आ गए तथा आग पर दो घण्टे में नियन्त्रण पा लिया। हमने ईश्वर को धन्यवाद दिया कि किसी व्यक्ति की जीवन-हानि नहीं हुई।
