Harmful Effect Of Polythene

Have you ever seen a rubbish dump where animals, especially cows are eating garbage? In the process of eating food waste, they swallow materials like polythene bags and wrappers of food. The plastic material chokes the respiratory system of these animals and can cause their death. The polybags carelessly are thrown here and there are responsible for clogging the drains, too. Sometimes, we are very careless and throw the wrappers of chips, biscuits etc., here and there.
So,

• Do not throw plastic bags in the drains or on the road.
• Take a cotton carry-bag or a jute bag while going for shopping.
• Use a steel lunch-box instead of a plastic one.

We should follow the example of Kannor village of Kerala where cloth-bags or jute-bags are used in place of plastic bags according to a report published in ‘Hindustan’ newspaper of 29-4-2017.

क्या आपने कोई ऐसा कचरे का ढेर देखा है जहाँ पशु, विशेष रूप से गायें कचरा खा रही हों? खाद्य अपशिष्ट खाने के प्रक्रम में ये पशु पॉलिथीन की थैलियाँ और खाद्य पदार्थों के रैपर भी निगल लेते हैं। प्लास्टिक पदार्थ इन पशुओं के श्वसन तंत्र में अवरोध उत्पन्न करते हैं और अन्ततः यह उनकी मृत्यु का कारण बन सकते हैं। लापरवाही से इधर-उधर फेंकी गयी पॉलिथीन की थैलियाँ नालियों को भी रोक देती हैं। कभी-कभी हम बहुत अधिक लापरवाही दिखाते हैं और चिप्स, बिस्कुट आदि के रैपर इधर-उधर फेंक देते हैं।
इसलिए –

• प्लास्टिक की थैलियाँ नालियों में अथवा सड़क पर मत फेंकिए।
• खरीददारी के लिए जाते समय एक सूती कपड़े का या जूट का थैला लेकर जाइये।
• प्लास्टिक के स्थान पर स्टील से बने भोजन रखने के डिब्बे को प्रयोग में लाइये।

‘हिन्दुस्तान’ अखबार में 29.4.2017 को छपी रिपोर्ट के अनुसार हमें केरल के गाँव कन्नूर के उदाहरण का अनुसरण करना चाहिए जहाँ प्लास्टिक बैग के स्थान पर कपड़े या जूट के बने थैलों का प्रयोग होता है।
