Environment means all the natural surroundings such as land, air, water, plants, animals, waste, sunlight, forests hnd many other elements. An healthy environment maintains the nature’s balance as well as helps in growing, nourishing and developing every living and non living things on earth.

In modem times the man made technological advancement has made it possible to exploit natural resources to the maximum limit. This unbridled exploitation has gravely endangered the natural equilibrium of the environment. In fact life on earth is endangered to such an extent that the future of our planet, the only habitable planet in the universe, is endangered. The existence of life on earth in future is questionable.

Environmental degradation means disturbing the natural equilibrium of nature including atmosphere hydrosphere and lithosphere. Besides the natural environment; a man made environment exists which deals with technology, work environment, aesthetics, ‘transportation, housing, utilities, entics etc.

This man made environment has adversly affected the natural environment to a very great extent. Therefore there is a drastic and urgent need to save our natural environment. This can be only done by not challenging our natural resources but to use them judiciously and sensibily, we have to conserve our natural resources, that our future generations can also have access to them.

We should stop wasteful use of natural resources, stop polluting our environment, so that we and our future generation can live a peaceful and healthy life on earth. The Government, media, educational institutions should play an enormous role in generating environmental awareness among children, youth and people in general students should be familiarised about environmental issues and encouraged to cultivate, investigative and think. They should be encouraged to acquire problem solving skills in various environmental problems.
