Answer» Benzoic produces effervescence with the liberation CO₂ when treated with sodium bicarbonate solution phenol does not. Benzoic acid will give the NaHCO₃ Test i.e., when NaHCO₃ is added to benzoic acid it gives a brisk effervescence of CO₂ gas where as phenol doesn't give such test.
