Write the charactersketch of the grandmother |
Answer» Sarthak agarawal<br>Khushwant Singh portrays his grandmother as an old, fat, short and slightly bent woman with wrinkles crisscrossing her pale face. According to him, she had never been young. He might have believed so probably because she hadn’t changed in the twenty years he had known her. Grandmother wasn’t pretty but possessed an inner beauty that was reflected in the purity of her heart, mind and soul. An aura of calmness, peace and contentment surrounded her.\tGrandmother had a deep sense of responsibility and fulfilled to her duties with great dedication. The manner in which she had looked after her grandson in the village is proof enough of this fact — she used to wake him up, try to teach him hymns, get him ready for and accompany him to school. Grandmother was compassionate towards all living creatures. Her happiest hours were spent in feeding the village dogs or the sparrows in the city. A deeply religious woman, most of her time was spent in prayer and the telling of the beads of her rosary.\tKhushwant’s grandmother was very strong-minded. While in the village, she had brought him up, single-handedly. In the city, once her relationship with him began to change, she accepted her seclusion quietly and without complaint, actively occupying herself with other interests: at the spinning wheel or feeding the sparrows. She wasn’t sentimental or emotional when her grandson went abroad for higher studies. In fact, she was able to bid him adieu without tears. Her conservative attitude was revealed in her disapproval of the modern system of education wherein no teaching about God or the scriptures was undertaken. Moreover, she considered teaching of music in school to be indecent. All these traits make grandmother an interesting character. | |
