Write the Nernst equation for the E_(cell) reaction in the Daniell cell. How will the E_(cell) be affected when concentration of Zn^(2+) ions is increased ? |
|
Answer» Solution :* Nernst equation for DANIELL cell is as follows: `E_(cell)=E_(cell)^(@)-(0.0591)/(2)log_(10)[(ZN^(2+))/(Cu^(2+))]` * If concentration of `Zn^(2+)` ions increases, `E_(cell)` value GET DECREASES. * On increase in concentration of `Zn^(2+)` it increases the value of, `[(Zn^(2+))/(Cu^(2+))]` so `log[(Zn^(2+))/(Cu^(2+))]` value increases. * So, subtractive value of `E_(cell)^(Theta)` ALSO increases, hence, `E_(cell)` get decreases. |
