Answer» The plants that grow in deserts or in very dry places where there is the scarcity of water are CALLED xerophytes. Examples- cactus, ASPARAGUS, agave, euphorbia and yucca. Xerophytic adaptations are as follows: (1) Extensive root systems which GO deep into the soil in search of water. (2) Roots have numerous root hairs to absorb water. (3) Leaves are reduced, SMALL, scale-like. (4) Leaves are modified into spines as in cactus. (5) Leaves are coated with cuticle to check loss of water.
