You have already read Coleridge’s poem The Ancient Mariner in which an albatross is killed by the mariner. Why does the poet make an allusion to the albatross? |
|
Answer» The poet makes an allusion to the albatross as his action and the action of the ancient mariner resemble to an extent. The old mariner liked and admired the auspicious bird, the albatross. However in a fit of mad anger, he killed the innocent and auspicious albatross with his cross-bow. Similarly, the poet is fascinated and honoured by the presence of the snake. But he was filled with anger when the snake prepared to enter the black hole and threw a log of wood at him. |
